      • Interactive webinar for the development of an EU seaweed strategy
      • In recent years the interest is seaweeds has grown exponentially in Europe. Seaweeds cover the news on a regular basis, whether it is about being a “super” food, a novel feed additive to reduce methane production in cows, a new biomass source for biofuel production, or an unpleasant “wave” that covers the beaches in the Caribbean. The European Commission qualifies seaweeds as an interesting opportunity to contribute to the mitigation of climate change (cfr. European Green Deal), and to create new jobs and businesses as part of its Blue Growth strategy. As such time is ripe to develop an EU Seaweed Strategy.

The online event, that will take place on Thursday June 11th, will be open to all European seaweed stakeholders that represent the 5 sea basins in Europe: Atlantic Ocean, Baltic, Black Mediterranean and North Sea. As you are an important representative and/or stakeholder of the European seaweed community, we invite you to participate in this 2.5-hour event.

During the webinar we will discuss technological, market and legislative aspects related to seaweeds. By means of various interactive sessions you will be able to contribute to the identification of the state of play, and the opportunities and barriers related to technologies, markets and legislation. We will use Adobe Connect as platform for this webinar.

Based on the information gathered during this online stakeholder event we will develop a draft version of the EU seaweed strategy. This draft version will be presented and discussed during Europe’s largest seaweed conference 'Seagriculture' on 24th and 25th of September 2020.
